Inverness Development Association (IDA)

The Inverness Development Association (IDA) is one of sixteen community development organizations recognized by the Municipality of the Inverness. The Inverness Development Association is a non-profit community based organization formed in 1968 with a mandate to work to improve the community of Inverness. For the past 15 years, the IDA has been instrumental in laying the groundwork and creating the infrastructure necessary to facilitate Inverness’ role as a tourist destination. With the support and financial assistance of the Municipal, Provincial and Federal Governments, the IDA has spearheaded many of the village’s most successful initiatives that have enhanced the lives of residents as follows:

Reclamation of the former coal mine sites, wharf upgrades, breakwater construction, beach canteen, kilometer long boardwalk, Visitor Information Centre, sidewalks, attracting the Cabot Links development, street lamps, park landscaping & town clock, tree planting along Main Street, development of a Fitness Centre, Trans Canada Trail, Inverness County Centre for the Arts, a floating dock, Inverness Conceptual Plan, Inverness Façade & Streetscape Improvement Program, Inverness community website.
